ESF Funding for NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety

Retallack Resort and Spa is a 5 star self-catering resort with over 125 properties.  Offering luxury holidays in Cornwall, Retallack Resort is home to Cornwall’s only FlowRider, as well as a spa and health club, restaurant, fishing lakes and kids club, and has its own housekeeping and maintenance team.

What were the business issues or challenges that were addressed by engaging in training?
As Claire was new to the Health and Safety role she needed to gain more in depth knowledge of the legislative and regulatory framework surrounding health and safety law.  The resort had grown quickly and organically over the previous four years and the Directors saw the need to provide a dedicated, qualified presence in order to instigate process and a positive health and safety culture.

The training undertook:
Claire undertook the National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety Level 3 NEBOSH which was part funded through the ESF Convergence Project delivered by Cornwall College Business.

What impact and benefits has the training had on the delegate and company?
The training has been invaluable and provided Claire with the necessary knowledge and confidence to put into place new initiatives and procedures.  The overall standards of health and safety on the resort have now improved and in turn, this has reduced insurance premiums and potential PI claims.  It has provided Claire with a foundation of information to enable her to ‘know where to look’ to get the full answers and to understand the major issues and pitfalls. The resort has many different health and safety needs due to the variety in facilities and activities carried out, from the Flowrdider, to the spa and construction.  The NEBOSH has enabled Claire to address these varying needs and identify priorities when at first they may have seemed overwhelming.

“Undertaking the training with CCB has enabled me to positively influence the health and safety culture at the resort and adapt procedures to the varying needs of the business such as the Flowrider, Restaurant or Health Club.”

Claire Whetter, HR Manager at Retallack Resort and Spa
